Family Physicians of Greeley was founded in 1972 by five family doctors: Donald G. Allely MD, Charles C. Chesley MD, Robert P. Gentry MD, Kenneth M. Olds Jr. MD, and Charles S. Westrup MD. These pictures from 1971 show the construction of the original Family Physicians Clinic, which today we call our Central Office at 2520 West 16th Street. It was part of Greeley’s new Rolling Hills neighborhood and you can see the skeleton of its unusual bridge design, angling away from 16th Street. In the background you can see other buildings that still stand today, including the Nazarene church and the urology clinic of Drs. Wolach and Sullivan. The sign on 16th Street reads: “A NEW Medical Clinic / FAMILY Physicians CLINIC/ CONTRACTOR PHELPS-TOINTON CONSTRUCTORS”. The construction trailer reads: “PHELPS-TOINTON CONSTRUCTORS”.
An early partnership agreement from 1973, signed by Drs. Allely, Chesley, Gentry, Olds and Westrup, hinted at the spirit of independence at our practice: “It is the intent of all partners that each shall be free to practice medicine in accordance with proper medical ethics unencumbered by the dictates of any other person."
The practice expanded rapidly starting in 1999, opening a second clinic on 58th Avenue (West Office) and merging with Cottonwood Family Practice in 2004 (Cottonwood Office at 2420 West 16th Street). In 2006 the West Office moved to its current location near 71st Avenue. The practice took a step beyond Greeley in 2015, opening the Johnstown Office near downtown Johnstown.
